The COVID-19 pandemic has placed the healthcare workers in an extremely challenging situation for their mental and physical health, extending the risks arising by tough working conditions and by the lack of attention towards preventing psychosocial risks.

The SARS VOC 2 pandemic leads to reflect on domestic work and especially on the legislative gaps in relation to the protection of health and safety. In the proposal to revise the rules in force, the characteristics of the workforce require consideration of the different incidence and quality of occupational risks associated with gender differences, starting from behavioral characteristics and different exposure to risks such as chemical, ergonomic but also psycho- social.

Smartworking?

Smartworking has been invoked by the Government as a work-life balance instrument during the pandemics. However, evidence questions some of the objectives of the EC dir. n. 2019/1168, not yet in force. There is a risk to instate a “theory of double workload”, which would increase gender disparity.

One of the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic is the explosive expansion of remote working from home. This post suggests using this phase of transition – towards the elimination of infections – to analyse this phenomenon and prevent it from operating to the detriment of women’s work.

Brazil: labor relations after the decision of the Supreme Federal Court for compulsory vaccination

The author addresses the issue of the constitutional limits to the determination of sanitary measures in case of eradication of infectious diseases, taking account of the ones taken to tackle Covid-19. Taking the view that balancing the conflict between public health and citizens’ autonomy cannot be done in absolute terms, the author analyses to this respect the decision taken by the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil on December 17, 2020 concerning the constitutionality of mandatory vaccination. She afterwards addresses the relationship between the employers’ will or duty to protect workers’ health and the consequences of workers refusing to be vaccinated.

Lo spettacolo “unito” nella pandemia. Breve storia sindacale

The webinar “Women’s work. Resource in the emergency and recovery factor” is divided into four sessions and is meant to be an opportunity to discuss old issues brought to the surface by the current Coronavirus pandemic. As a matter of fact, the emergency has affected sectors with a high presence of women, with a growing worsening of overall employment conditions; it has imposed profound restructuring of the organization, with increased difficulties on work- life balance; finally, the gap between self-employed women and employee women has widened. If the risk for women is that of dropping out of the labor market or being employed in discontinuous and low-wage jobs, the emergency offers at the same time the opportunity to think about possible correction of structural imbalances and restructuring women employment and their rights. Knowing that women’s work is thus at the crossroads between marginalization and recovery, we think it is nowadays crucial to discuss the fundamental shifts brought by the pandemic, the risks and opportunities thereof and the strategies that may create positive advances for women.

Quick notes on the Saudi Arabian Labour Law during the COVID-19 pandemic

Saudi Arabia labour law was devoid of preexistent tools suitable to face the COVID-19 emergency. The legislator promptly reacted to the crisis, issuing a Sr 120 billion (USD 35.2 billion) stimulus package, with Sr 70 billion reserved to the private sector.
The strategy moves on two fronts: provide liquidity to companies (and workers) and avoid mass dismissals. The legislator implements the former goal mainly via a postponement of taxes and fees. For the latter, it introduced a temporary layoff scheme, in some cases supported by a public allowance up to the 60% of the wage.
On top of this, the government implemented several social distancing rules and strongly promoted the smart working.
